Semester End Reflection

I have learned so many things this semester! I never thought I would be such a pro on the Mac. I remember at the beginning, I barely knew any of the programs, and Mac computers were a real mystery for me. Now after being in this class, I know how to effectively use all the programs. I also know how to use stock photos now by using stock exchange because you can't just use random photos off of google, because that would be copyright.
Programs I learned how to use in this class:
-Numbers
-Pages
-iPhoto
-Photoshop
-Illustrator
and also many tricks on how to create things like typography or making interesting pictures on photoshop. I had no idea it was so easy! At first, I thought everything would be so difficult and confusing but after practicing, I know how to do a lot of things now. My work efforts contributed to my work and progress in this class because in order to actually know how to do things, I had to complete tons of activities. Luckily, I got all my work done, and with that I gained great skills. This class will definitely aid me in other classes and also the future because now that everything uses a lot of technology these days, it's good to know how to use these programs and computers. I know that it will give me a better advantage in the future. For example, I have commercial photography class and we have to know how to be able to know how to use programs on the Macs such as iPhoto, Photoshop, and also keynote. Luckily, I have multimedia so I already know how to use those programs. Without a doubt, Illustrator was the most challenging. The program is still sort of difficult for me, and it's still a little hard to create some images. I think it's just the program that's challenging. Some of the simple tasks are so much harder than they seem. I do know how to  create a 3D vase now though. The assignment I enjoyed the most was actually our final project. I'm not sure if I could say that as assignment, but I enjoyed that the most. I got to show my photo editing and creating abilities. It was fun because I got to use different programs and skills to create these photos. I think the one I like the most was re-editing things on photoshop. It's so cool that I could create different products with combining different photos. I also learned that you could also add cool effects to photos as well on photoshop. It's just a little bit more complicated than iPhoto, but I like a little challenge though. I think this class was a really cool class and I actually had fun while learning, and now I know how to do so many cool stuff on the computer now.

The final project!

This is my final project! I'm so proud that I was able to complete it, and I'm proud of what I've learned to do so far this semester!! The file size is too big, so you'll have to download it:

What I accomplished today!

I'm finally done with my project. I might want to just edit it a little more next time, but basically I'm done. Next time, I'll post it as a PDF since I didn't have time to today. Today, I made a picture of a bunny and made my showcase a two page document instead of four page.

Project!

Today, we had a sub, but I got most of my project done. I also made a picture in adobe illustrator of a vase. Here's what I have for the showcase so far. I just need one more picture, but I'm currently working on it.

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B-yY_l0l8tS2ZjNkYTgzZDEtZGJhYi00MTEyLTkyNzMtMzVlMTNhM2I5Y2Ey&hl=en&authkey=CIrKi7gF

Adobe Illustrator picture

Last time, I didn't do my adobe illustrator picture yet, so here it is:

It was a lot more complicated than it looks. I really really don't like adobe illustrator and I never want to do it again. It's so complicated! I guess if I got the hang of it, it would be more simple, but it's definitely a challenge.

What I accomplished today...

I have 3 completed pictures now. I edited a picture of a city and added fireworks to the background which is cool. I might have to stay after school to finish my magazine layout. I'm mostly done, I just need to finish with putting my pictures on the layout and add some more text. I also haven't done my illustrator picture yet, so i need to make another one of those pictures. Hopefully, I will be able to complete a lot of my project, after school today.

What I accomplished today...

Today I finished my picture of the panda and i made some cartoon effects to the background which looks pretty cool. :) I also took cherry photos and edited them on iPhoto. So far, 2 down, 1 more to go. I think I might want to add more photos later on, if I have time. I tried creating some cool pictures from a photoshop book, but it was way too hard, so I didn't do it. I guess if I was more of a pro at photoshop, I could've done it, but still the directions were kind of confusing. Also, I want to try Illustrator, but it also looks difficult. I think I'll try to do something with it next time though.

New project!

So today we started working on our new project. We are supposed to create different pictures using our new skills w/ photoshop and illustrator. I just started with a picture of a panda! I'm pretty sure i'll get it done by next time, and this project is probably going to be really fun! Hopefully i'll get more done next time.

Illustrator

The difference between vector based image production and pixel based image production? A vector uses vectors and lines to create graphics and use two end points. Pixel puts a picture in a sized window. Size depends on the number of pixels, rather than vector. Resolution dependent is when you can have things in different sizes independent from the pixels. Independent Resolution is when you can restrain your image in the size of the browser.

adobe Illustrator

Today I worked on Adobe Illustrator. It was a lot more confusing than I thought it would be! It was really frustrating because first of all, I couldn't get the gradient to work because it kept staying on black and white. Also, illustrator is different from photoshop so it's a lot more challenging. After a while, I'm sure it will get easier, but right now it's frustrating. Hopefully, i'll get better at it!(:

Food log(:

Here's the full food log, since I wasn't able to post all of it last time! It has all the things I ate in a week, and has all the charts showing the food groups I ate and the percentages.

What I did today

Today I worked on finishing my food log on numbers. When I saved it, it was too big so next time, I'll have to make things smaller and try again. Here's the pdf file for it, although it's not the whole thing.

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B-yY_l0l8tS2MWE1N2IwY2EtNzNhMC00YWUyLWFjZmUtNTE5OGIxOWY5Mjlj&hl=en&authkey=CLzikoAP

Food Log

Today I recorded what I ate for the past two days and then put it all in a chart. Next, I started to use photoshop to make a picture of my face with foods! Haha it'll be very interesting.

Reflections on Today

Today, we read an article that was really interesting, details in other post. Then, we worked with typography again and this time I decided to do an apple. It was really easy and I enjoyed making it. Plus I just put a bunch of random things which was entertaining. Here's the picture:

Reflections on: Inside the War Against China's Blogs.

I don’t think it’s okay to have the companies do this. First of all, you’ll never know if the product is ever good or not. So, you wouldn’t be able to trust people’s opinions. It could be a really bad product and if there were good comments on it, then yes, of course consumers would buy it. That wouldn’t be good though because it’s false advertisement.     It’s also kind of low that you would have to pay people to put good reviews and comments about your product. I still don’t understand why they are disrespecting chinese culture. I think that’s really mean because even though they may be guilty it’s not right to be ridiculing other people’s cultures. That is definitely not netiquette. In my opinion, I still think it’s wrong that the companies are using false advertisement, but I wouldn’t go to the point where I would make fun of their culture. For example, Toyota featured an ad with Chinese stone lions bowing to a Japanese-made SUV. That is just really disrespectful. I also never knew that they had to spend so much dealing with bad comments. They spend tons of money trying to erase bad comments and negative information, and then they spend even more money paying people to right positive comments. Although I wish it would all be truthful and not a bunch of lies. How do we know who’s giving the true information? It also makes me question if they do that here in the U.S. Can i trust anyone anymore on the internet. Reading this article made me really think about all the lies that people tell to cover bad things up in this world. When we were little, didn't they tell us it was bad to lie? They aren’t exactly setting good examples. I just really hope that not everything on the internet I read is a lie these days.

Typography

Typography is what language looks like. It's the art and techniques of type design. It's not words, it's like a design. Big companies use artists for topographic work because it requires to have skills to be a typographer. It might effect potential consumers because if the design is nice, and it looks really neat and professional, consumers are most likely going to want to look at the product and buy it. I think graffiti would be typography because it's a form of design used with words. I think typography is amazing. There are certain effects you could create by just the type of typography you use. Plus, it just makes the text much less boring to read. I think it's also like a form of art and after learning about the anatomy, it looked really interesting! I had a lot of fun today, and I learned a bunch of neat things. Hopefully next time I'll finish my flower, although i'm not sure if I'm supposed to use real words or can it just be a bunch of letters? I look forward to doing more with typography next class period.

Anatomy of a font:
1. tail
2. spine
3. apex
4. serif
5. bowl
6. finial
7. counter
8. descender
9. stem
10. spur
11. link
12. loop
13. ear
14. ascender
15. arm
16. crossbar

The one I edited today-
I know it's not much, but hopefully next time I'll get more done, it's kind of because I was just typing actual words so I'll see what I can do next class period!

Short class

We had really short 30 minute classes because of benchmarks today. I finished on what I worked on last time, which was finishing up with the editing! I'm really glad I'm getting the hang of photoshop and it's so simple when it's broken down into easy steps. Hopefully, by the end of the 6 weeks, I'll be a pro at photoshop!!

2nd Six Weeks Reflection

I think I have been really productive this six weeks. I learned how to make a whole brochure, itinerary, and everything. I'm now really good at pages because of that, and I'm now experienced with it. Also, we just learned about RGB and CMYK and about light and that was really interesting because I never knew you could make different colors from codes or red and green make yellow. I think my work habits are good, but I can be talkative during class. Although, when I really try, I'm a hard worker and get good quality work. Talking kind of slows me down a bit, but when I know I need to get my work done, I usually get it done. I have gained a bunch of knowledge about computers and technology in this class. This next semester I'll probably learn a lot more too. So, overall this class has helped me learn more about computers and how they work and interesting stuff like that.

Photoshop Today

With the step by step instructions, things were much easier today. It was actually really fun and easy! I guess I learn better by actually doing the things. Here's the image i did:

Working with Photoshop

Today, we learned about Photoshop and how to use it. Even though there were a bunch of tutorials, it's still    really confusing to me. I hope I'll get it more later on, it's just that there are so many buttons and things you can do, and it gets confusing. Hopefully, i'll get it more later on.

Color Imbalances in CMYK Questions

Mixing Light Tab-
1. How can you get Cyan?
By mixing green and blue.
2. How can you get Magenta?
By mixing red and blue.
3. How can you get White?
By mixing red, blue, and green.

Mixing Pigment Tab-
4. How can you get Red?
By mixing Magenta and Yellow.
5. How can you get Blue?
By mixing Cyan and Magenta.
6. How can you get Black.
By mixing Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

7.As the yellow ink cartridge no longer has enough ink to work as designed, what
happens to the other colors?
The other colors stay the same but there's no more yellow.
8.As the cyan ink cartridge no longer has enough ink to work as designed, what happens
to the other colors?
The other colors stay, but cyan fades away.

SPECTROMETRY IN CMYK AND RGB!

SPECTROMETRY IN CMYK AND RGB

1. How do you think the Spectrometer works?

I think the spectrometer shines different colors onto the color to record how much light reflects back.

2 . Were there any unexpected results? What were they?

No, I don’t think there were any unexpected results.

3. Were there any differences between the different printers?

There were some small differences between the different printers because the colors are the same but kind of different.

 4. Compare the printed color sheet to the one linked in the blog. What differences due you notice in the RGB display versus the CMYK printout.

The RGB display is much brighter, and the colors are more vivid than the CMYK printout. Some of the colors don’t even look the same for both.

5. Did you notice the Hex Codes for each color. Would you say Hex codes have more in common with RGB or CMYK? Explain.

I think they are more similar to RGB because the hex codes are related to the amount of Red, Blue, and Green.

6.Do you think the use of spectrometry is important for publishers? Why or why not?

It’s extremely important because when publishers want to get a specific color to print out or use, they need the right code to get that color. If you don’t the right one, then you can’t get the color you want.

7.What sort of consequences may arise if spectrometers were not used in publishing?

Some problems that may arise would be that none of the colors you want would be right. They would all look different then what you need so, say you need to print out a picture of an orange, and it turns out looking like red or magenta, then that would be bad.

What we did today! Today, we got to play with iPhoto. This time, we were supposed to figure out the exact edits you used for a picture. It's really not that hard at all. It's actually easy. Then, I just took a photo of my own and used the same effects. Today was a really easy going day though. Plus, we don't really have much time today.

What we did today!

Today I got to change photos on iPhoto and adjust them. We also calculated RGB and CYMK and how you just guess the different numbers for red, green, and blue to create a specific color. At first, I was confused, but then I got the hang of it so it got easier. I understand this a little better.

What I did today

I'm almost finished! Although I still need to work a little more, but I'll be able to finish if I stay after school today and maybe even tomorrow. I'm extremely proud of myself because I really got a lot completed!!! The best thing about this project was I learned so much about my country. I truly want to visit there someday and maybe I'll even take my own travel guide. I really hope I'll complete today and make it look very nice and professional.

What I did today

I actually got most of my project completed, and I’m extremely proud. Although I’m not sure if I can complete all of it by next time. I worked extremely hard on this project today and I was really progressive. I really hope that I get it done by next time though. I’m just going to have to work really hard and on task and maybe i’ll finish.

Liechtenstein Project

I got so much completed today, but it all got erased :( I didn't keep saving it so pages just quit on  me, which made me extremely upset! Hopefully I'll get more done next time, but that was just extremely disappointing news! So, basically now all the work I got done, I have to do it over again... Maybe next time will be better.

Liechtenstein

Today we didn't have much time, so i got to work a little bit on our itinerary.

Today I finally finished my brochure!!!!! I’m so happy! The finishing product came out nicely, and kind of how I planned. I’m really glad I was able to finish so now, I can start on my itinerary. After, I was done, I saved it as a PDF and posted it on my blog. Next time, I hope to complete a lot of my itinerary as well. (:

Liechtenstein....Working on brochure!

I actually got a lot completed today which is extremely good! I'm happy that I have gotten so much work done, and everything is running very smoothly. Although, I still have quite a few things to do, I basically have the idea of my brochure and some information as well. The one problem I had was that pages quit again, so now I have to keep saving everything after I have just edited or else I'll have to start all over again. Other than that, everything went well today. Next class, I hope to actually complete my brochure! I don't think it'll take very long though because I'm almost done.

Monday, October 4, 2010

What I got completed on today

I finally got everything I needed and I worked on my brochure today. I'm going to need to do a lot of researching and it's a bit harder because I have a small country. It's a lot more challenging to get photos since there aren't many for my country. Hopefully, I'll complete most of my brochure next time.

Brochure Design Examples

australia.jpg

I liked these two designs the best because they look really creative and there are a lot of pictures. They also look very professional and the designs are extremely nice, neat, and organized. What made them stand out was the colorful design and pictures. I think I could use these ideas in my brochure by making my brochure look more elegant and neat. It could also be brighter.

Liechtenstein Project

I worked on getting everything back on my brochure, but it was really frustrating. It was harder than I thought it would be. It was also a lot more work than I had planned. The most frustrating part was when I was still working on my project, and pages suddenly just quit on me. I had to start over....again! That made me really upset. Hopefully things will be better next time!

What we did today

I got really upset when I came to class and couldn't find my project. I spent so much time and effort working on this project. Luckily we all saved it as a PDF so we didn't have to start all over again. Still, it was extremely disappointing to find that out!

1st six weeks reflection!

This first six weeks, i think I have been really progressive. I learned a lot about using the computers and I also learned how to make my own blog! I have been progressing through this class very well and i get most of the things we do in class. At first, I thought this class would be kind of boring, nut it's actually interesting. I have really learned a lot of things and I know it would help me out later in life. This class I have learned:
-How to make my own blog
-How to create an avatar
-How to make a nice, professional blog
-Netiquette
-How to use pages efficiently
-The basics of using iMacs
-What stock photography is
-How not to use random pictures from google
-How to create a PDF
-What is a PDF
-How to make a citation
-Much, much more....

I think all of this information will be extremely useful later in life. Now that more and more people use iMacs, it's extremely important that you have the knowledge to be able to use them. It's also important that we learned what netiquette and stock photography is. If you didn't know that taking pictures from google that could be copyrighted or taking copy and pasting information right from the internet is illegal, you could end up in a lot of trouble later on. That's why it's good to know the rules of the internet so that you could save yourself from getting in trouble later on. I think multimedia has really helped me learn a lot of things I never knew and I'm pretty sure I will have to be able to keep this knowledge for the future.

Day 5- Liechtenstein Project

I got a chance to look at everyone’s projects today. It looks like everybody is doing very well on their projects! It’s nice to see other people’s progress and hopefully everyone will get an amazing outcome out of their projects. After reviewing everybody’s projects, I self evaluated my own. I think I overall did a good job on my project. Although it’s still a work in progress. Hopefully next time I’ll complete a lot of my brochure! I feel like a pro at pages now. I guess it is true that practice makes perfect!! :)

Thoughts about other projects!!

My 3 favorite have to be:
Taco Talk's Blog https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0ByuByHN_AFlUMjQyZTE1NDQtMzc1Ni00MjJjLWJjNzQtYTM1NmE4ODhmOWQ0&hl=en&authkey=CLOFm10 - I liked this one because the layout was really nice. It looks very professional and neat, and there's also a lot of pictures! The design was also good and I liked the color schemes.

Phamalot's Blog-  https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B9aIgWEtuCXgYjY1ZmU2NWMtZDQzMi00NWQxLTgwNDgtYmFhMTU2OWY4ZTM1&hl=en&authkey=CLP_5aEG I liked this one because it had a lot of cool pictures. It looks professional and there's also a lot of information. It also looks like they spent a lot of time and effort on it.

Pink Panthers's Blog https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0Bxs_cPhXC5L3OWM4ZjY3NTEtZTYzOC00Yjk2LWI4NTItYjQwMWY1NWEyMDU4&hl=en&authkey=CMi3hPgH&safe=on - I liked how they used the different designs and layout offered on pages. It also looks professional and they include a lot of pictures. They included everything they needed to and the overall design is very nice and neat.

Today, after finishing up what I needed on my project, I changed it into a PDF file. It went a lot faster and easier than I thought it would. The only problem I had was when I changed it into a PDF the first time, one of my fonts were blurry. I had to go back and change my font so you could see it on the actual PDF. The 2nd time worked much better. Everything looked good and you could basically see and read everything. My PDF link is in the link above. After, I worked on my brochure a little bit more. Next time, I hope to finish a lot of my travel brochure done and get more work done and research.

Day 3 of Liechtenstein Project!!!

Today we are still working on our projects. I got a lot of work done today! I finished what we were supposed to complete which were the cover, table of contents, work log, and bibliography. After getting the hang of things, I get much more completed each and every time. Now that I have those done, I can start working on my actual brochure. At first I thought everything would be difficult, but now it seems fairly easy. Next time, I hope to get more completed on my actual brochure.

Day 2 of liechtenstein Project!

I think i got a lot more things accomplished today! I'm starting to get used to the Pages program. Last time, I was kind of confused on what to do, but now I'm getting the hang of it. It's a bit harder than Microsoft Word. Today I finished my Cover page and started on my bibliography. I also started working on my actual brochure, and overall I think I did a good job so far. The project looks nice and neat, and also looks professional. I hope I get even more done, next time!! Hopefully I'll get better at the program!

Multimedia project: Country-Liechtenstein Day 1

Today we made a sketch of our design we want for our travel brochure for our project. After, we take a picture of it and post it. (Posted on other blog.) Then, I started working on my real brochure using pages on the iMac. I think I got a lot of work accomplished today, but I'm still not too familiar with pages yet. I am learning a lot of things though. Hopefully next time I'll get even more work accomplished!

Citations & Bibliography, Free Stock-Photography, and Public Domain Imagery

Citations and Bibliographies
1- What is plagiarism? Any good reasons to avoid it? Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and putting it as your own. Some good ways to avoid it are reading the paragraph and putting it in your own words. It'll be less likely that you will plagiarize.

2- What citation format are we using for this project?
The citation format we will be using for this project are in-text citation and work cited, footnotes, endnote, modified endnote.

3- Create a citation for your 'Works Cited' page of two websites you might use on your project.

"CIA - The World Factbook." Welcome to the CIA Web Site — Central Intelligence Agency. Central Intelligence Agency, 10 Sept. 2010. Web. 10 Sept. 2010. <https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ls.html>.

Manz-Christ, Gerlinde. "Portal of the Principality of Liechtenstein - Home." Portal Des Fürstentums Liechtenstein - - Home. Government Spokesperson’s Office. Web. 10 Sept. 2010. <http://www.liechtenstein.li/en/>.

Free Stock-Photography
1- What is stock photography?
You can use photos without having to pay anything.

2- Why can't we just use random images off google?
You can't use random images because you might get in trouble for using a copyrighted image, so you never know.

Public Domain
1- What does it mean for an image to be Public Domain?
They are images that don't have rights within the country that you are living in.

2- Post a picture you found off a stock photography or public domain site on your blog.

3- Write the citation for this photo.

Country- Liechtenstein

I chose Liechtenstein because it's not a very well known country. It's a really small country. It's also a really interesting country and in 6th grade I remember researching it one time. I was interested in Italy, France, or Japan but they were taken, but Liechtenstein is also a really cool country!

Responses for scenarios- Netiquette

Scenario #1 – A student sends a harassing e-mail to another student. The receiving student
retaliates with a “flaming e-mail.” Is this the appropriate response? If not, what would be?

This wouldn't be the appropriate response. You shouldn't respond to messages that are threatening. You should just tell a parent or administrator.

Scenario #2 – When hanging out with friends, one of the students makes a call on their cellphone and carries on a conversation while still within the group. Is this ok? Why or why not?
This isn't okay because it's rude to multitask people.

Scenario #3 – A student logs on to a free file sharing website and downloads a song they just heard on the radio. Is this ok? Why or why not?
This isn't okay because that would be stealing if you download copyrighted music and other things without permission or paying.

Scenario #4 – A student follows a questionable link to a website and downloads a malicious script which releases a Trojan Horse virus on to the school network. Is the student to blame? Why or why not?
They shouldn't have opened it if it was questionable, but it would be unfair if the student was to blame, because they didn't know.
Scenario #5 – An hour before class, a student remembers that a writing assignment is due. The student goes to the library, logs on to a website, and copies/pastes the information. Is this ok? Why or why not?
This wouldn't be okay because it's illegal and dishonest.

Scenario #6 – At home, a student uses a software package to copy movies and games from DVD’s for his or her friends. Is this within fair-use laws? Explain.
This wouldn't be within fair-use laws because you can't share copyrighted information. It would be like you were stealing it.

Scenario #7 – A student logs into the school website to download the syllabus they lost. Are they breaking any rules or laws? Explain.
It would be breaking the laws because that would be still copyrighting. Maybe if he had permission from his teacher, it would've been legal.

Scenario #8 – Students spend a good amount of time in class creating a web page for a school sponsored fundraiser. However, there website is not usable by certain individuals with disabilities. Was this disrespectful or wrong of them?
This was disrespectful of them because it would be rude that individuals with disabilities wouldn't be able to use the website, but individuals without disabilities could.

Pages

I thought using pages was much more fun than microsoft word. There are so many other things you could do with pages and it's easy too. With pages you can choose from all different kinds of templates, fonts, and other neat stuff. It's really easy to use as well. There are so many options you could choose from to make your paper or presentation look better, or more professional, without having to do any work. I think we'll be using pages a lot this year!

I think i basically got all the things on the rubric or at least very close to it. It was really easy to get everything right for my blog. Although, it was a very time consuming process and there were so many things we had to do. Such as customize, make our avatar, add gadgets, design our profile. etc. I thought it was pretty fun and easy! Thanks for reading  my blogs!!
